St Emilion is a medieval village, originally on pilgrimage routes, now on the UNESCO register of historic sites. It is set on a hill, surrounded by hundreds of small vineyards, many of which have a wine-tasting shop in the village. The Eglise Monolithe, entirely underground, was carved out of the limestone between the 9th and 12th centuries.
