The first thing we heard about the Cathedrale Notre-Dame in Amiens was "it is twice as large as that other Notre Dame in Paris." If so, they must mean its volume, not its square footage, for as long as it is, its height is the most impressive of its dimensions. Other pictures include memorials to Australian and New Zealand soldiers who died in WW I, defending or recapturing Amiens; a deliberately outrageous clock tower a block from the cathedral; and the waiter at the Greek/Turkish restaurant we found open--clearly besotted by his granddaughter.
